Runway 12R/30L construction was completed in December 2011. A few interesting photos of the runway grooving operation are posted below:

The grooving machine is tethered to a water supply and disposal truck. Water is used to cool the rotating cutting wheels and is then vacuumed up along with the residue for disposal, leaving a clean grooved runway surface behind.

The photo above shows the water in and out tethers and the machine operators station on the side.

Here's a good example of why we groove. The water truck just flushed the pavement with water. Note the standing water on the ungrooved pavement and the nearly dry pavement that has been grooved
